ABOUT Alien 1989 Movie:

Alien 1979 Movie – Science Fiction Horror Classic

Alien is a 1979 science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott, and written by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. It stars Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt and Ian Holm. The film depicts the crew of the commercial space tug Nostromo who encounter the eponymous Alien while exploring the surface of an unknown planet. The film was produced through Brandywine Productions and distributed by 20th Century Fox. Giler and Hill made revisions to O’Bannon’s script that removed ambiguity about the creature’s origins; there had been concern that no matter what was decided upon it would alienate half of the potential audience due to various religious beliefs about creation.[4]

Alien – description

Alien (1979) is a science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott, produced by Gordon Carroll, David Giler, and Walter Hill. The screenplay was written by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett, and story by O’Bannon and Shusett. While it spins out into other genres as well — action-adventure in the vein of Alien’s predecessor Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope; horror like The Thing from Another World; sci-fi like 2001: A Space Odyssey — it also worked as pure science fiction.

Directed by Ridley Scott- Born in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, England, Ridley Scott is a British film director and producer. Scott has been nominated for three Academy Awards for Directing.

The producer credits for Alien are as follows:

  • Gordon Carroll (original story)
  • David Giler and Walter Hill were producers of the 1979 film Alien.

Screenplay by Dan O’Bannon

Story by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett

The story was written by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett, who also served as executive producers. The screenplay was inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, specifically his novella At the Mountains of Madness (1931). In an interview with Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine in 1980, O’Bannon said that he wrote the screenplay “as a direct result” of reading Lovecraft’s book at age 15 or 16. In a 2013 interview with French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, O’Bannon recalled:

“I read The Thing From Another World and I thought it was great…but I thought that this thing could really be better if we do it right…and so I started thinking about how to make it better.”

Starring:

  • Tom Skerritt as Dallas, the captain of the Nostromo
  • Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, the warrant officer on board
  • Veronica Cartwright as Lambert, one of the crewmembers aboard
  • Harry Dean Stanton as Brett, another crewmember aboard

John Hurt as Kane, a third-class science officer specializing in life sciences aboard The Nostromo and later discovers that he has been infected by an alien facehugger. He is later killed by Ash when he tries to kill Ripley when she enters his cryotube chamber after being told not to touch it by Parker. His death is used by Ash so that they can take over The Nostromo once again with him using its power supply to kill everyone else except for Dallas and Lambert who escape into hypersleep chambers which freeze them alive until they are rescued later by Ripley with Newt after having destroyed all of those who had previously infiltrated their ship including Parker who was killed while trying to stop her from finding out what happened on LV-426 during its previous expedition there where he was shot dead along with Burke (who died earlier).

Alien 1979 Music:

  • The music was composed by Jerry Goldsmith, who won the Academy Award for Best Original Score.
  • The score for Alien is often considered to be one of the best film scores of all time.
  • It’s a combination of orchestral and choral elements, with a blend of modern electronics integrated throughout.

Cinematographer Derek Vanlint was responsible for the cinematography in this film. He also worked on Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection and won an Academy Award for his work on Alien.

Vanlint’s camera helps to establish the tone of this movie through its use of lighting, focus, and framing techniques. There are many scenes that are shot using very dark lighting where there is little or no source of light available in order to create a sense of fear and tension within viewers–the characters have no idea what might be lurking around each corner!

The editing team on Alien, who won an Oscar for their work, was led by Terry Rawlings. He had worked with Ridley Scott on several films before this one and went on to do several more after it.
