ABOUT Psych:

Psych is an American detective comedy-drama television series created by Steve Franks and broadcast on USA Network with syndicated reruns on ION Television. The series stars James Roday as Shawn Spencer, a young crime consultant for the Santa Barbara Police Department whose “heightened observational skills” and impressive eidetic memory allow him to convince people that he solves cases with psychic abilities. The series also stars Dulé Hill as Shawn’s best friend and partner Burton “Gus” Guster, as well as Timothy Omundson, Corbin Bernsen, and Maggie Lawson.

The show follows the adventures of Shawn and Gus as they solve various crimes together using Shawn’s purported psychic abilities. The show is produced by Franks and Tagline Television, in association with Universal Cable Productions. It is filmed mostly in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The show premiered on July 7, 2006, and has aired eight seasons on USA Network. The series finale aired on March 26, 2014. In February 2019, it was announced that a film adaptation, produced by Franks and directed by Chris Henze, is currently in development.

Psych has been well-received by critics. On Metacritic, the first season has a score of 74 out of 100, based on 29 reviews, indicating “generally favorable reviews”. Reviewers appreciated the show’s cast and premise, as well as its light-hearted take on the police procedural genre. However, some reviewers criticized the show’s lack of realism and its use of various pop culture references.

In 2007, the show was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Corbin Bernsen). It was also nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, winning for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Psych has been nominated for five Saturn Awards, winning for Best Comedy Television Series in 2011.

The series has aired in more than 170 countries. In the United Kingdom, it aired on Virgin 1 (now known as ITV2). In Canada, it aired on CTV and later on CTV Two. In Australia, it aired on the Seven Network and later on Network Ten. In Latin America, it aired on Sony Entertainment Television.

As of March 2019, Psych is available to stream on Hulu in the United States.

In 2006, Shawn Spencer (James Roday), a former police officer from Santa Barbara, California, is falsely accused of a crime he did not commit. To avoid going to jail, Shawn opens a psychic detective agency called Psych with his best friend, Burton “Gus” Guster (Dulé Hill). Shawn and Gus help the police solve cases by using Shawn’s purported psychic abilities, which Shawn mostly uses to fool people, as he does not actually have psychic abilities.

The show revolves around the partnership between Shawn and Gus, as well as their interactions with the other characters in the show. These include Shawn’s father, Henry (Corbin Bernsen), a former police officer who disapproves of Shawn’s lack of traditional police work; Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson), the head of the police department who is often annoyed with Shawn’s antics; Detective Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), a by-the-book detective who is often skeptical of Shawn’s psychic claims; and Detective O’Hara (Maggie Lawson), Lassiter’s partner who is more open-minded to Shawn’s abilities.

In the first season, Shawn and Gus help the police solve a number of cases, including the murder of a Santa Barbara city councilman, the kidnapping of a young boy, and the apparent suicide of a popular author. The second season sees the return of some of the first season’s villains, as well as the introduction of new ones, such as a group of art thieves, a serial killer, and a gang of bank robbers.

The third season introduces a new love interest for Shawn, Juliet O’Hara (Maggie Lawson), as well as a new nemesis, Mr. Yin (Cary Elwes). The fourth season sees the return of several first and second season villains, as well as the addition of a new one, a serial killer known as the Zodiac Killer.

The fifth season sees the departure of a main character, Burton “Gus” Guster (Dulé Hill), as he is recruited by the FBI. The sixth season introduces a new love interest for Gus, Keegan Deane (Ennis Esmer), as well as a new nemesis, black-market art dealer Mr. Wu (Raymond J. Barry).

The seventh season sees the return of Gus and the addition of two new main characters, Monica Reyes (Jorja Fox) and Tiffany Viland (Sasha Pieterse). The eighth and final season sees the return of several first and second season villains, as well as the addition of a new one, a serial killer known as the “Trinity Killer” (Benedict Cumber
